What-to-Know Wednesday : Studious Snacks!

Between those trips to the dining hall, most of us need a little something extra throughout the day. Unfortunately, most of us don't have a full kitchen and stocked pantry's worth of snacking options, much less the budget to make that happen. Fortunately, however, there's plenty of quick, easy, generally good for you, cheap snack options out there that put Ramen and Easy Mac to shame!!

These are a few things that I like to keep on hand in my dorm. Whether you try out this exact list or put your own spin on it, just remember to investigate different options and that you never have to settle for those stereotypical college snacks (unless you're particularly into those, of course)!

1.) Instant Oatmeal

Instant oatmeal is a quick, tasty, and healthy mid-morning snack! It's super easy to find wherever you choose to do your shopping, and they come in a variety of yummy flavors! So far my favorites are Maple & Brown Sugar and Banana Nut Protein.

2.) Energy/Granola Bars

Energy bars are quick, easy, portable snacks that you can toss in your bag if you're on the go, or enjoy at your leisure whenever you feel like it! My personal favorite is Lara Bars. They come in a ton of different flavors, and they're only made with a handful of real ingredients like various fruits and nuts. These can be a little trickier to find, but I've always had good luck at Hannaford.

3.) Cold Cuts

If you're looking for something a little bit more substantial or possibly a quick lunch to take on the go, there's nothing better than making a quick turkey or ham and cheese roll-up to tide you over! I like to grab fresh cold cuts at the deli in Hannaford instead of the packaged stuff. That way, I get to control the amount I get, and let's face it- it's just better! Depending on how much you rely on these as an option, about 1/4 - 1/2 pound will get you through the week easy!

4.) Goodies from home

There's nothing better than a homemade brownie! More specifically, there's nothing better than these homemade brownies. Check out this awesome recipe from my go-to YouTube channel for whenever I'm looking to get inventive: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aWXcZcWufFE

Naturally, this one is my favorite. It's definitely the more indulgent option, but hey- you only get these every once in a while!

At the end of each break, I like to make either cookies, brownies, or something completely new to bring back with me to school for when I'm looking to get a little more adventurous with my snacking! They'll only last for a couple of weeks (depending on if you share, which you should!!), but they make for an awesome weekday reward for all your hard work, and it's a fun little project to get into at the end of every break!

Happy snacking, and stay tuned for the next Sum-It-Up Sunday on the 31st!
