This past Tuesday, we had our first Knight Chat of the semester. As always, we got a ton of awesome questions and also got the chance to interact with some amazing accepted students! Interested in registering for an upcoming Chat? See our semester schedule below...

Tuesday, 2/21 (Parents of accepted students/applicants)
Tuesday, 3/7 (Early accepted students/applicants)
Tuesday, 3/28 (All accepts)
Tuesday, 4/11 (Parents)
Tuesday, 4/25 (All accepts)

This week at SMC...

This week on campus, we welcomed a fresh blanket of snow: our view from the 400s!

On Wednesday, I made these fun Confetti Cake Blondies for our Founders Society coordinator/advisor potluck! These were pretty quick and easy to make and came out great- I highly recommend trying them out yourself!

When it comes to pizza, we settle for no less than the very best: a tasty buffalo chicken pie at American Flatbread on Friday night!

I hope you all had a wonderful week! Be sure to stay tuned for the next What-to-Know Wednesday on the 1st!

What-to-Know Wednesday : How Every SMC Student Can Benefit from Career Services

Whether you're a First Year about to finish up the beginning of your college career or a senior about to finish up for good, St. Michael's Career Services is an on campus service available and valuable to all students!

Take advantage of the resources available to you in the following ways...

1.) Pinpoint what you're aspiring to.

Developing ideas now about where you want to be headed in the future will ensure that you're taking the right classes and joining the right activities along the way to get you where you want to go!

2.) Building a LinkedIn profile

This is a crucial step in developing your professional identity. Starting it early and building as you go along will ensure you have a strong profile by the time you're ready to graduate and apply to jobs!

3.) Perfecting Your Resume/Cover Letters

As you start getting into junior and especially senior year, now is the time to start thinking next steps. The counselor will walk you through your drafts and pinpoint what needs changing, improving, etc.

4.) Job Searching

This is pretty much self explanatory...however, it's worth noting how invaluable an outside, unbiased perspective can be in defining a step that could largely affect your life going forward!

As a soon-to-be SMC graduate, I've been utilizing Career Services quite a bit lately. In fact, I wish I'd started to utilize their help sooner!

It can be scary to think ahead. But getting help and clarifying these steps along the way can ease the stress that often accompanies them and better prepare you for starting your post-grad future!

Sum-It-Up Sunday : Week #1

Hello all!

It was a wonderful first week of the spring semester here at SMC. Those of you who have read my previous post know that this is my last semester, and it's already been a very busy first week! With my senior seminar project due in its final form at the beginning of April, I'm hitting the ground running and already have my work cut out for me.

However, I still made some time for myself this weekend and made it out for my last first Smugg's day on Saturday. While it was a bit dreary, we made the best of it with some freshly tuned skis and a hint of nostalgia!

To all my fellow current students, I hope you all had a great first week back! And to all my prospective student readers, I hope you'll join us for this semester's first Knight Chat on Tuesday at 7:30 PM!

Stay tuned for the next What-to-Know Wednesday on the 25th!

What-to-Know Wednesday : Reflections From My Last First Week

Hello all, and welcome back to another semester at Stories of St. Mike's!

To my fellow St. Mike's students, I hope you all enjoyed a relaxing break. And to any and all prospective (and accepted!) students, I hope you're all ready for this semester's packed schedule of Knight Chats, Open Houses and Accepted Students Days! It will be an eventful semester for many reasons, and I look forward to interacting with you all.

If you've been following along, you know that this semester will also be my last at St. Mike's, as I'm graduating in May! As my last first week of classes progresses, I've been reflecting and preparing for everything there is to be done over the next fifteen weeks- which is quite a bit.

As a senior Media Studies, Journalism & Digital Arts major, I'll be spending the bulk of this semester writing and publishing a book for my senior seminar exploring "hobby-jobs" (hobbies pursued for a living), who pursues them, why, and how they navigate through work and leisure in their lives. There have been no shortage of horror stories passed down from MJD seniors over the past three years, so I know it'll be hard work. However, it's also one of the things I'm looking forward to the most as I start my final semester! It'll be an accomplishment that follows me for the rest of my life, and I'm so grateful to be given such an opportunity through my major here at SMC.

Also in my final semester, I'm finishing up my year as the Online Media & Communications coordinator for SMC's Founders Society, a position I've enjoyed working toward since my freshman year, and one that I'll certainly look back on as one of the highlights of my college experience.

Lastly, I'll be spending the next couple of months perfecting my resume, looking for and applying to (real life!) jobs in hopes to hit the ground running this summer (after a week or two to catch my bearings and celebrate, of course).

I'm looking forward to reflecting on the last four years over the upcoming months on Stories of St. Mike's, and as always, I hope you'll find my thoughts, experiences and advice helpful to your own journey with SMC!

Stay tuned for the semester's first Sum-It-Up Sunday on the 22nd!
